Boat Race on Wheels: The Oxford Cambridge Trans-Africa Expedition 1954

Written by Don Calman, edited by James Taylor with photos by Ross Charlton

Published with the energy and enthusiasm of Adam Bennett (who has restored both of the original vehicles!)

This is the prequel to and inspiration for the well-known First Overland: London-Singapore by Tim Slessor.

288 pages fully illustrated with many black and white plus colour photos.

This is the story of an adventure undertaken by six Oxford and Cambridge students in the summer of 1954

Using two 86" Land Rovers they successfully drove from London to Cape Town, the notes, diaries and associated photos have remained unpublished until now, a fascinating snapshot of post-war Africa, less than 10 years after the close of war.
